CHROMOTHERAPY
Chromotherapy, sometimes called colour therapy or light therapy, is based on the premise that certain colours are infused with healing energies. The therapy uses the seven colours of the rainbow to promote balance and healing in the mind and body. The colour spectrum is composed of different frequencies and wavelengths of light energy. Medicine uses the energy of colours to promote harmony and healing. The colours are said to be imbued with certain healing properties (i.e., red is energizing, blue is calming) and the vibrations generated by each colour balance the individual.
Within our body, our organs, muscles, cells and nerves all have a level of vibration. When our body becomes out of balance, disease occurs. Through extensive research, we know that colour and light will help bring our physical and emotional systems into balance. In this alternative medicine, therapists use colour and light to balance physical, emotional, spiritual or mental energies that our bodies are lacking.
Holistic healthcare providers who practice colour therapy often relate the seven colours of the colour spectrum to specific areas of the body known as the chakras. In yoga, the chakras are specific spiritual energy centers of the body. The therapeutic action of colours is related to the chakra they represent. Therapeutic colour can be administered in a number of ways, but is often combined with hydrotherapy and aromatherapy to heighten the therapeutic effect.
The seven colours of the colour spectrum are related to areas of the human body (chakras) that are believed to be spiritual energy centres of the body. They include:
Violet
Violet promotes enlightenment, revelation, and spiritual awakening. Holistic healthcare providers use violet to soothe organs, relax muscles, and calm the nervous system.
Violet is a colour of transformation. It heals melancholy, hysteria, delusions and alcohol addiction and brings spiritual insights and renewal. Violet colour slows down an over-active heart; stimulates the spleen and the white blood cells (immunity). Brings sleep. Soothes mental and emotional stress.
